Community

As a part of firm’s commitment to its core values, the firm endeavors to support the growth and well-being of its staff and to give back to the community at large.  This support comes in a variety of forms.  We have listed here a few of the causes, events and skill sharing opportunities supported by Ordiz-Melby Architects.

Events

The most visible forms of our staff’s involvement and community service are community events.   Ordiz-Melby believes that support for community events not only helps support the community but also strengthens staff and the firm.  We have listed some of the more significant events in this section of the site.

Mud Volleyball for Epilepsy

Team Muddy Makers Participated in the annual tournament on June 10th at Stramler Park. The team did not “ace” the tournament, but sure did have a lot of fun playing! We played 6 games and won 2, not bad for beginners.

Thank you to Danny, Jeannie, Manuel, Joey, Glenn, Vlad, Melissa, Alyssa F, Katie, and Lani for coming out and getting dirty for a great cause.

We hope to have more teams next year!

Charity Run/Walk Events

OMA regularly sponsors employees, family and friends participation in charity Run/Walk event.  These run/walk event encourages fitness, comradery and benefit a good cause. This is something we definitely enjoy supporting and we have been recognized for our participation with several “most entrants for a small business” awards.

CANstruction

In 2015, Ordiz-Melby staff participated in the first Bakersfield CANstruction event.  The OMA team planned, designed, and built a tribute to Bakersfield Icons Buck Owens & Merle Haggard, the Padre Hotel and the Fox Theater all out of cans of food.  At the conclusion of the events, over 10,000 cans of food were given to local food banks to help fight hunger in Kern County.   Ordiz-Melby won four awards including People’s Choice Award, Juror’s Favorite Award, Best Use of Labels Award and Structural Ingenuity Award.

In 2016, Ordiz-Melby staff again participated in the Bakersfield CANstruction event.  This time, they constructed “Dory”, that turned out to be a real crowd favorite.  Ordiz-Melby won three awards including People’s Choice Award, Juror’s Favorite Award, and Best Use of Labels Award.
