Our task was to design the first and only gymnasium for the Greenfield Union School District at Greenfield Middle School, home of the eagles. The school district is comprised primarily of low-income households. Attendance is low and there are many disciplinary issues among the student population. Beyond providing students with the basic gymnasium facilities, the district wanted a building that would inspire school spirit and sense of pride not only in the gym but in their school campus and community. The design needed to be clean, easy to build, bold, and unique. The basic construction will be steel construction with an EIFS finish that will allow for a faster construction and a more flexible exterior design at a relatively lower cost compared to traditional block or tilt up construction.
